Chris Kreider scored a goal in the seventh round of an overtime shootout as the New York Rangers edged past the New Jersey Devils 4-3 on Sunday, Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden.
The goal by the veteran was his first shootout goal in his career.
In a back and forth game, the Devils got the scoring started after Jesper Bratt netted a goal in the first period off assists by P.K. Subban and Dawson Mercer. The Rangers answered with a goal by defenseman Adam Fox to tie the game at one-point apiece.
Alexis Lafreniere put New York ahead on a goal assisted by Kaapo Kakko and Jacob Trouba.
Less than two minutes later, the score was once again leveled after Dougie Hamilton's shot found the back of the net off assists from Pavel Zacha and Bratt.
Kakko put the Rangers up once more, scoring off an assist from Ryan Strome to put New York up 3-2 almost mid-way through the third period.
But Zacha tallied a goal off assists from Tomas Tatar and Nico Hischier to make it a 3-3 game with less than three minutes left.
Both teams remained scoreless in overtime and went on to a shootout. A block by Alexandar Georgiev against Zacha gave the Rangers a chance to seal the win in the seventh round and in his 10th season with New York, snuck a goal by Devils goalie Jonathan Bernier to win the game.
The Rangers (9-3-3) look to keep their three-game winning streak alive against the Montreal Canadiens (4-11-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
